Fruit & Vegetable Program

This week the students will receive a delivery from the BC School Fruit & Vegetable Nutritional Program.

CHERRY TOMATOES

  • Grown on a vine, botanically, a tomato is the ovary and seeds of a flowering plant. It is, in fact, a fruit.
  • There are around 7,500 tomato varieties grown for various purposes.
  • Tomatoes contain lycopene, which has been shown to improve the skin's ability to protect against harmful UV rays.

  • For further information, fascinating facts and interesting history on these delicious fruits please read the PDF document on TOMATOES.

Students will receive their tomatoes on Thursday. This snack is not meant to replace the foods students normally eat at school. Students can make their own decisions on whether to taste the fruit or vegetables offered.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the PAC via e-mail or contact the school administration at 604-713-4620.

    Mural Project Update

We made great progress on the mural today! Thanks so much to all of the families that came out. We got tons accomplished and the mural is looking fantastic.

However, it is a complex design and there's lots of work left.  If you are able, please consider coming by to help paint at one of the following times this week:

    Monday 6:30-8:30pm
Tuesday 1:00-3:00 pm and 6:30-8:30 pm
Wednesday 1:00-3:00 pm and 6:30-8:30 pm

No need to RSVP, just drop by. Work will be happening rain or shine, since the mural is under the covered area.  If you would like to confirm a time, please e-mail the PAC.

    Family Mural Party May 27

On Sunday May 27th at 10 a.m., we will be having our second mural party!  Bigger than last year, this mural will cover the wall underneath the covered area on the west side of the school.

Please come out with your family and help us make our little school more beautiful and our community that much stronger! Bring along a picnic blanket, work clothes, and some sunscreen and meet us at the west side of the school anytime after 10 a.m. We will have paint brushes and all the supplies necessary.

We will be providing a pizza lunch, refreshments and snacks. If you know that you will be making it for lunch, please let us know by contacting the PAC at arlordpac@gmail.com so that we have enough for everyone.

In addition to working on our mural, the UBC landscape architects who are donating their time to our new natural playscape will be present to talk about the upcoming fall project. This is a great opportunity to discuss what you would like to see in our kids’ new natural play area on the west side of our school. Come for a couple of hours or just drop by and cheer us on. If you have any questions please contact Tracy or email the PAC at arlordpac@gmail.com.

Last year we had a blast!

    Fruit & Vegetable Program

This week, students will receive baby bell peppers in their classrooms.

    BABY BELL PEPPERS

Believe it or not, all bell pepper plants are red bell pepper plants. The difference? Time. Like tomatoes, peppers start out green, then gradually ripen to yellow, orange and then red.

Bell peppers originated in South America from wild seeds dating back thousands of years. Christopher Columbus discovered them on his travels to the "new world" and brought seeds back to Europe.

Just one red bell pepper gives you 100% of your daily dose of vitamins A, C, and E.

For further information, please read the PDF document on peppers.

Students will receive their peppers during class time. This snack is not meant to replace the foods students normally eat at school. Students can make their own decisions on whether to taste the produce offered.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the PAC at arlordpac@gmail.com or contact the school administration at 604-713-4620.
