Field Trip to Stanley Park and the Vancouver Aquarium

Last week, Division 4 and Division 6 went on a joint field trip to Stanley Park and the Vancouver Aquarium. The students released the salmon fry that have been growing in Ms. Young's classroom, observed wildlife at Beaver Lake, and explored fish and frogs at the Aquarium. What a great day!

Thank you for a fantastic Sports Day!

Thanks to all students, staff, families, DARLAA, and Eastside for a fantastic Sports Day. Even the rain co-operated by waiting until just before lunch, when we were safely under cover.

Have a great Victoria Day long weekend and see you back at school on Tuesday!

Sports Day TOMORROW!

Our school's Sports Day is coming up tomorrow, Friday, May 17. The PAC will be providing all students, staff, and volunteers with a free snack and pizza lunch. We will also be running a concession with tea, coffee, canned drinks, snacks, home baking, and pizza by the slice.

This year, we are attempting to reduce waste, so we ask that all students bring their own refillable water bottle to Sports Day. There will be water stations for refills on the school grounds.

If you are able to bring some nut-free home baking to sell, please do!

We will also be raffling off two show tickets and two wristbands to the Childrens' Festival, happening from May 27-June 2 at Granville Island, thanks to the generous contribution of a Dr. A. R. Lord family.

See you there!

Fruit & Vegetable Program

This week the students will receive another delivery from the BC School Fruit & Vegetable Nutritional Program.
BABY CUCUMBERS

  • The cucumber is a creeping vine that roots in the ground and grows up trellises or other supporting frames, wrapping around ribbing with thin, spiraling tendrils.
  • Cucumbers are scientifically classified as fruits because they have an enclosed seed and develop from a flower.
  • Cucumbers are 95% water.

  • For further information, fascinating facts and interesting history on this crunchy vegetable please read the PDF document on CUCUMBERS.

Students will receive their delivery during class time on Wednesday. This snack is not meant to replace the foods students normally eat at school. Students can make their own decisions on whether to taste the vegetables offered.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the PAC via e-mail or contact the school administration at 604-713-4620.

    Artwork Around Our School

As many of you may know, we recently lost a beautiful Atlas cedar tree at our school. It lost yet another large branch in a windstorm three weeks ago and had to be removed.  Division 4 wrote a lovely letter to show their appreciation and remembrance for the tree.
