Environmental Association of BC Grant awarded to Dr. A.R. Lord Elementary

Dr. A.R. Lord recently was awarded a $1500 grant for the purchase of aquarium equipment and art supplies for next year's Kindergarten class for their Salmon Education Program.   This means that the Kindergarten children will have the opportunity to learn first hand about the life cycle of salmon and environmental stewardship.  Eggs will be brought into the classroom to hatch into alevins and then released into a natural salmon habitat on a field trip.

Thank you for the generous support from the
Environmental Manager's Association of BC !!!

  • Shane Simpson - MLA Vancouver Hastings:  Congratulations to AR Lord on the award for their Salmon Education Program. It is great to see young people making this kind of contribution and being recognized for their efforts. A big thank you to the Environmental Managers Association of BC for the award and again to the kids and teachers at AR Lord for their efforts and success.

Dr. A.R. Lord hosts Welcome to Kindergarten

Recently, on May 29th, next year's kindergarten kids, their families and caregivers were invited to our school.  It was an opportunity to meet their future teachers, Mrs. Susie Car - the Principal,  the PAC, fellow students and families.

They sang songs, did arts and crafts, practiced writing their names, and sat down for story time with the Hastings VPL Librarian in a warm and fun environment.  Tours of the school were also given so that the children would be familiar with the school setting.

We are looking forward to having these new young students start in September 2014 at our wonderful school!

Kindergarten to Grade 2 students will also be receiving cow's milk or a fortified soy beverage as part of the +Milk program. Here's scoop number ten on MILK.

BABY CUCUMBERS

  • The cucumber is a creeping vine that roots in the ground and grows up trellises or other supporting frames, wrapping around ribbing with thin, spiralling tendrils.
  • Cucumbers are scientifically classified as fruits because they have an enclosed seed and develop from a flower.
  • Cucumbers are 95% water.

  • For further information, fascinating facts and interesting history on this crunchy vegetable please read the scoop on CUCUMBERS. You can read more about cucumbers and other hothouse vegetables in this week's DOUBLE SCOOP.

Students will receive their delivery during class time on Wednesday. This snack is not meant to replace the foods students normally eat at school. Students can make their own decisions on whether to taste the vegetables offered.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the PAC via e-mail or contact the school administration at 604-713-4620.
