Grade 3 students at Dr. A.R. Lord and other elementary schools across Vancouver learn about fire prevention, home fire safety, and emergency preparedness. The
Fire and Life Safety House which is a portable classroom on wheels, came to visit the school on January 29th. Fireman Henry discussed various fire issues and safety with the kids, they watched a video and had the chance to practice evacuating the fire house.
Review the evacuation plans with your family and child in case of a fire:
1 Don't Panic or hide
2 Roll off the bed
3 Crawl to the door
4 Feel the door
5 If it's not hot, use escape route 1 (eg.door)
6 If it's hot, use escape route 2 (window)
7 Don't go back in for anything
8 Meet in a special spot our front
9 Do a head count
10 Call 911
Also ensure your child knows their address when calling 911
A.R. Lord recently visited by Vancouver City Fire Fighters. They brought the mobile Fire and Life Safety House on site and taught students about how to be safe around fire. This portable classroom gives them the opportunity to develop safety plans, identify hazards, and evacuate in the case of an emergency.
