NEWS RELEASE: FLAWED METHODOLOGY FOR CAPACITY CALCULATION

NEWS RELEASE July 14, 2016
Province’s skewed methodology for calculating capacity utilization makes schools appear empty
Students caught in budget battle between Province and school boards
Vancouver, B.C. – Parents of Dr. A.R. Lord Elementary School students are outraged by the budget battle between the Province and the Vancouver School Board, which threatens to close their vibrant neighbourhood school.
A.R. Lord is one of 11 East Vancouver schools targeted for possible closure based on the Province’s unrealistic target of 95-per-cent capacity utilization to receive funding for seismic upgrades and their mandated methodology to calculate that capacity utilization. The methodology, which is seriously flawed, makes schools appear empty when they are not.
