School Garden Work Party - Getting Dirty!

Fresh rich soil was laid down in the school garden beds on the South West side of the school last week.  A team of students, parents, teachers and community volunteers from the Environmental Youth Alliance pitched in at the after school event.

These garden beds will be used by both A.R. Lord students and the East Side Alternative High School youth.  It is an opportunity to teach them about gardening, seeds, planting, sustainability and food first hand. Lessons will also be delivered by educators during their regular lessons throughout the year!

Thank You to all Volunteers!

Shopping Fundraisers Online - 33 days left! -Books for Dr. A.R. Lord

The Dr. A.R. Lord Parent Advisory Council (PAC) has chosen a few easy online fundraisers that are low pressure, high utility, and low overhead that generate money for the school and it's students.

The Flipgive Fundraiser is focussed on purchases of items that you may buy elsewhere (eg. direct through retailers in store or online, gift card vendors such as the supermarket, or even Groupons) but instead of the seller earning all the profits, a portion is shared with our school.  In turn we use this money to purchase new books for our Library in the Books for Our Kids Program.

How does it work?
1. Go to the Dedicated Dr. A.R. Lord Link Here: AR LORD Flipgive Books For Kids
2. Choose e-gift cards or make your next online purchase at retailers you already buy from such as Indigo, Aldo, WaySpa, Starbucks
3. Make your purchase directly online.  You get full face value - eg. a $50 gift card costs you $50.
4. Flipgive donates funds to our school for each purchase made.  Donation amounts vary by retailer.
Even buy your next GROUPON for dining specials, hotels, events through this site!

This campaign is available for a limited time only.  Only 33 days left. Do your Christmas shopping early and support our school.  Share this post with your family, friends and co-workers!

If you are still not convinced.... buy shoes ->get books! Purchase a $30 Aldo gift card for $30 and Flipgive donates $15 to us for the Books for our Kids Program from Indigo!.......... You had me at buy shoes!

Dr. A.R. Lord Alumni Association (DARLAA) - Thanksgiving hampers donated

A.R. Lord has had amazing children pass through our East Van school whom have now grown up to become young adults that continue to give back to their roots.  DARLAA is a non-profit organization of our school alumni that focuses on youth leadership, community engagement and charitable endeavours.
They have continued to support our students and school by hosting fun activities, volunteering at events such as sports day, raising funds and donating to the families and children at our school.  Their latest endeavour was to provide 100% of the funding to create five generous thanksgiving food hampers.
These baskets were delivered to our school last week and Principal Ms. Car gave them to families in need within our school community.

DARLAA we thank you for your generous support and are so proud of all your efforts, energy and especially your model leadership that you demonstrate to our children!
