Do you have Traffic and Transportation Concerns in our Neighbourhood?

Come out to the Hastings-Sunrise Transportation Listen and Learn

The City recently engaged with residents on walking and cycling improvements to the western part of the Union-Adanac Corridor.

Before launching an engagement process on the eastern section of Corridor, we want to better understand neighbourhood transportation issues between Hastings Street, Boundary Street, East 1st Avenue, and Renfrew Street. What we hear will inform future improvements.

We want to hear from you!  Join us for a conversation.

Join us at a “Listen and Learn” session to share your neighbourhood transportation concerns. City staff will be available to discuss walking, cycling, transit, vehicle traffic, and goods movement in the area.
Drop in anytime between: Tuesday, May 305-8pm
Hastings Community Centre,  3096 East Hastings St

Call for Library Volunteers

If anyone has a free 20-60 minute time slot on June 5, 6, 7, or 8th… could you please come to the A.R. Lord Library to help our school Librarian, Ms. McCandless organize the library book shelves. This requires an extreme attention to detail and the ability to put numbers in numerical order, and letters in alphabetical order.
This pre-organizing will be incredibly helpful and time-saving before she begins a full library inventory on June 12th. Almost any time of day should work, and even one small shelf done by you will save her so much time.
Please see Ms. McCandless directly if you can assist.

Emergency Preparedness at A.R. Lord Elementary

May 4th was the BIG ONE AT TWO emergency drill and a simulation of an earthquake and emergency procedures are carried out by students and staff. This is the second drill of the year and additional preparation and practice of procedures in followup to the Big Shakeout that was carried out in the fall.
Students practiced the DROP-COVER-HOLD procedure and took shelter in a safe place during the mock-quake. All occupants of the school then evacuated to the gravel field and checked attendance. A few parents were also asked to participate and practice authorized pickup of their children.
The VSB has designated School Emergency Response Teams (SERTs) in each school which consist of staff volunteers who are specially trained and have designated roles and responsibilities in the event of an incident.

Equal Play - Girls Legacy Soccer Program

A.R. Lord Girls have been participating in Equal Play Girls Soccer Leadership Program, a non-profit organization that encourages girls at the elementary school level to play soccer. Over several weeks, the Grade 4-7 girls learn soccer in a fun setting that helps them build confidence, be physically active, develop positive images of their body, strength and ability and the love of sport. The organization is lead by Carrie Serwetnyk, a former national soccer player and the first woman to enter Canada's Soccer Hall of Fame.

* Division 7 performed a song for us and showed us their artwork about things we can do for the environment.
* Julie, a school parent, came to talk to us about raising honey bees in her yard.
* Chris, whose children used to to attend Lord, gave a talk about helping mason bees and what they can do for our gardens
