Templeton Science Challenge 2015

Grade 6 and 7 A. R. Lord Students participated in a day of science, innovation and competition at the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) classrooms at Templeton Secondary School on Friday, Feb 6th.  Various nearby elementary schools also participated.  They were assisted by high school students (including Lord alumni) and Templeton teacher Mr. Hengeveld (who is also an A.R. Lord Parent).  Activities included:
Chemistry:  Students used forensic investigative skills (fibre and density test) to connect evidence to a crime scene.
Physics: Students built a mouse trap powered catapult to launch a marshmallow for distance and accuracy.
Biology: Students classified invertebrates (animals that lack a backbone) based on morphology (body parts of organisms).
One of the teams from A.R. Lord placed first in each of the Physics and Biology competitions! We have many budding young scientists!  Everyone had a great time and received a cool science t-shirt!
